Health Campaigns: The Double Edged Sword
We believe our society needs to be healthy. We believe that healthy eating is a vital. We do not believe that current strategies to advocate healthy eating are working.
We do not believe that it is productive to constantly remind people of the negative effects of being overweight. Society is gripped by ‘fat phobia;’ while we are busy shattering the self-esteem of the overweight, society at large is made to feel that the only worthy way to live your life is to ‘move more and eat less.’ We think there is something very wrong with a society that accepts dieting as a normal, socially expected occupation.
Eating Disorders are the collateral damage of ‘healthy living’ campaigns. Bulimic women at times see their purging behaviours as a ‘healthy’ means of weight management. People have come to equate weight loss with ‘healthy’.
We believe that campaigns should focus on loving our bodies; they are a gift to nourish, care for and cherish.

We want to know what you think about current campaigns. Does society’s attitude towards dieting get your back up? Have you seen enough “How to lose pounds in days…” adverts? Do you think we need to change our minds about the ideal figure?
We want your thoughts on video, audio or good old print.
