New University Group Projects
SRSH is always keen to see new groups established; however we want these groups to be long lasting and effective. It is important when setting up a group that we consider the potential long term stability of a project, including the commitment from the potential group facilitators and from the Students Union and University Support Services.
Should individuals keen to set up a project be struggling with the second or third point – get in touch! SRSH can help. SRSH routinely talk to universities about setting up projects. We can get enthusiastic volunteers started on training and then wait for other necessities to slot into place before we give the project a green light.
In the process of setting up a new group, SRSH reserves the right to terminate the training and set up process if we feel we have exhausted all possibilities of setting up a safe, effective and well supported group. SRSH trustees must be consulted before this action is taken. The affected parties must be given prior warning and should have 28 days to appeal to the trustees. Decisions made by the trustee board following an appeal hearing shall be final.
SRSH is regularly oversubscribed with requests to set up a new group. In this situation, interested individuals will be asked to work on ensuring that their project has support from the university and enthusiastic volunteers. SRSH maintains a waiting list. This does not operate on a first come – first served basis; SRSH will always give priority to projects where there is the most demand, enthusiasm and university support.
- There needs to be a team of three or more student volunteers in place who are committed to work with the project for two or more years before SRSH will work on developing a university group project.
-
Potential projects should have support from the Students Union and Student Services at their university.
-
Potential projects should have funding in place to contribute towards the set up costs of the project.
