Improving the mental health of Students
Our fundamental aim is to improve the mental health of students. We believe that to do this we have to encourage all students to talk more openly about mental health. Facilitating peer support is a fantastic way of ensuring that more students get more support quickly. We know that when students face problems, they tend to talk to their friends first. This suggests to us that it would be a good idea if ALL students were confident talking about mental health. How can YOU help us achieve this?
Building confidence in talking about mental health...
Support Groups. We train students to run support groups, to give them the skills and confidence that they need to talk to their peers about mental health. Putting learning into practice through running a support group, helps students build up lifelong confidence in their ability to be there to listen to people facing mental distress and offer the kind of relaxed and informal support that really makes a difference.

Increasing knowledge.Students tell us that they don't talk about mental health problems because they don't know what to say. By running workshops and conferences and providing online resources we hope to increase student understanding of mental health.

Making mental health an everyday thing.
Mental health should not be something we think about on the occasional day, it is integral to everyday. We encourage students to run campaigns that focus on talking about mental health everyday, as part of everyday conversation.
If you'd like to help with campaigns, or organize your own campaign, you should contact the team at your university to find out what they are up to. |
