SRSH founder and director carries the Olympic torch
This morning, Tuesday the 10th July, the 53rd day of the Olympic Torch relay, SRSH founder and director, Nicola Byrom, carried the Olympic Torch around the Iffley Road Running Track. Nicola was nominated as a Torch Bearer by the University of Oxford to represent all the outstanding work that students do across the university to support their local and national community.
If this event was not special enough, Nicola had the privilege of taking the torch off Sir Roger Bannister, the first man to run the sub 4 minute mile. Nicola says,
"It was a great honor to take part in the event and I felt truly humble to be in the company of such sporting hero's. For me though, the event was about celebrating the hope of recovery for all young people who are affected by eating disorders. I set up SRSH following my own experience as a teenager with an Eating Disorder and feel passionately about improving the support available for young people. There is much work still to do, but it is amazing through SRSH to slowly start to make progress and hear wonderful stories about the individuals our volunteers are able to support. I must thank all our volunteers, right across the country, who work so hard and bring so much passion and enthusiasm to the organisation. We couldn't do any of this without you!"
